Structural Integration (SI)
A PROCESS OF BODYWORK FOR LASTING CHANGE IN YOUR POSTURE, MOVEMENT, & HOW YOU FEEL IN YOUR BODY
-
Relieve nagging pain & discomfort.
-
Improve your posture & movement.
-
Feel lighter, taller, more open and free.
Structural Integration is not massage. It is a body-oriented therapy that is better-suited to help you find lasting relief from chronic pain and stress.
Injury, stress, trauma, & repetitive motion contribute toward body-wide patterns of posture, movement, & pain.
THESE HABITUATED PATTERNS CAN CAUSE DISCOMFORT OVER TIME.
SI's holistic approach is designed to address these patterns of tension. You'll discover how you've been unconsciously holding yourself in a state of discomfort. Then you'll explore new ways of using and being in your body that feel good which you can apply in your daily life.

Discover what it's like to feel taller, lighter, more open and free, with fewer movement restrictions and less pain.

Here are some classic photos of clients before and after a 10-session series of structural integration.
The idea isn't to force yourself into some ideal posture, but rather to let go of tension so that easier ways of being in your body emerge naturally, without effort.
Who is structural integration for?
You will probably benefit from structural integration if:
-
You suffer from chronic pain, tension, or stress
-
You're an athlete looking to improve performance
-
You deal with repetitive motion injuries
-
You want to improve flexibility
-
You have experienced trauma
-
You want to age gracefully
-
You want to enhance self-awareness
What does an SI session look like?
There are 4 parts to a typical structural integration session:
1. CHECK IN
Each session begins with a brief check-in about any changes you've felt since the previous session and the plan for the current session.
At your first visit, this will include a more detailed conversation about your goals and challenges.

2. ASSESSMENT
You'll change into athletic wear, then we'll do an assessment to see where and how you might be holding tension in your body.
I'll propose a strategy for the session and confirm that it fits with your concerns for that day as well as your long-term goals.

3. BODYWORK
The session proceeds to the therapy table. Pressure may range from firm to gentle, according to your preferences. I may occasionally ask you to perform movements that make the techniques more effective.
While we're working, we'll dialogue about what you feel in your body—this helps you integrate change in ways that are often missed with more passive approaches.

4. EMBODIMENT
Often, after working an area on one side of your body, we will take a moment for you to stand up, move around, and notice any changes you may feel before returning to the table.
This is like saving your work on a document. It helps you "own" any feelings of comfort and ease so that you may access them in the future.

The 10-Series of Structural Integration
AN INITIAL PROCESS THAT SYSTEMATICALLY ADDRESSES YOUR ENTIRE BODY
Don't worry—you won't be pressured into buying a package (I don't even offer them).
Pain and discomfort may show up in one area but are actually part of a larger, whole-body pattern. SI treats your whole body systematically, ensuring that contributing factors are addressed. SI was traditionally presented as a series of 10 sessions that build upon each other, though I've come to regard the 10-series more as a guideline to be customized to your needs.
Start with a single session or free consultation. From there, we'll come up with an approach that works for you. We can follow the traditional 10-session format, or I can design a series of 3, 5, 12, or any number of sessions in accordance with your needs.
